Replacement of a septic tank with two BIOROCK L sewage treatment units at a former Castle

Project

Replacement of a septic tank with two BIOROCK L sewage treatment units at a former Castle now converted into apartments.

Size of the system

BIOROCK for 20 PE composed of a pair of BIOROCK 10pe units installed in parallel

Background

The castle is located in a rural setting within a region known for its vineyards and its natural environment of exceptional beauty, served by a network of footpaths and bridleways giving access for walkers and horse-riding.

The aim of this project was to upgrade an existing brick built septic tank to a non-electric sewage treatment plant. The BIOROCK system has been selected by the customer as it allowed the use of the existing tank and did not require have an electrical connection brought to the location of the tank in the woodlands.  The discharge of the treated water at the water out of the treatment tanks is by gravity, taking advantage of the natural slope of the surrounding ground. The customer also received for its project a competitor offer for the installation of a compact electric treatment plant of a capacity of 20 PE, but that option was not selected.

The existing rectangular septic tank was upgraded by connecting a BIOROCK for 20 PE composed of a pair of BIOROCK 10pe units installed in parallel side by side downstream of the septic tank. These wastewater treatment units are fed by a custom-made distribution box to ensure an equitable distribution of effluent over the two units. The installer has used concrete around both tanks to ensure a maximum stability of the two treatment units as the ground in the area was quite unstable.

Our client was delighted with all aspects of the work for this project; a competitive quote, an efficient delivery to the installation site, minimal disruption and little damage in the grounds and surrounding woodlands despite a difficult access to site - an obvious technical competence at all levels and a superb achievement once the work on site was finalized.
